Identity Symbol of Ahmedabad - Kankaria

Kankaria Lake, also known as Hauj-e-Qutb, is a second largest lake located in heart of Ahmedabad that is in Maninagar area. This lakeside is a major entertainment centre of Ahmedabad. The lakefront is well developed by Government of Ahmedabad city with tethered balloon safari, train ride, zoo, kid’s fun city, aquarium, Butterfly Park, food stalls, Balvatika, joy rides and other entertainment facilities. If you are visiting Ahmedabad, you must visit Kankaria Lake, you will enjoy whole day with a lots of interesting things. Whether its thrill or adventure, whatever the tourist seeks they will find it here. It has been the symbol of Ahmedabad city’s identity since almost 500 years.

How to reach there

By Road – Ahmedabad is well connected with all major cities and towns by road. Important Bus stops are located at Gitamandir near Kalupur railway station and Paldi. Regular bus services are provided and private operators are available to all major destinations of the state

By Rail – The main railway station is located in Kalupur area. If you are on western side of Sabarmati River, then go to Gandhigram station to buy your tickets easily.

By air – Sadar Vallabhbhai Patel airport is an International airport. Numerous domestic flights are also operational from here.  

Timings of the Lakefront

Morning walk (Free) – 4 am to 8 am

Break – 8 am to 9 am

Opening (Applicable fees) – 9 am to 11 pm (All days of the week except Monday)

Evening walkers (Monthly pass of Rs 100) – 7 pm to 11 pm

Children (5 to 12 years old) – Rs 5

Adults – Rs 10

Handicapped persons, Freedom fighters, senior citizens above 70 – Free (Identity Card required)

Students in Educational trips in group – Re 1 per head (Principal’s letter mandatory)

Attractions

Kankaria Zoo - It is also known as “Kamala Nehru Zoological Park”. Thousands of animals, wonderful surroundings and rare species of reptiles are attracting tourists in huge number.

📸 Camera Charges - Rs 5 for simple one, Rs 25 for 8 MM movie camera, Rs 50 for 16 MM movie camera, Rs 100 for video camera, Rs 10,000 for professional video camera

Nagina Wadi – Nagina Wadi is a beautiful island in the middle of the lake. In the evening Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation conduct fountain and laser show for 30 minutes, which start around 7:30 pm.

⛲ Musical Fountain and Laser Show cost – Rs 20 per person

Segway – Imagine yourself gliding on two wheels around Kankaria Lake. It is worth an experience for all above 4 years. You can take a round of segway for 15 minutes.

Mini Train – Mini toy train gives a wonderful experience to take a round around the Lake.

Kids City – It is a dream world for little ones. It is miniature world representing city with roads, vehicles, banks, fire station, police station, hospital, theater, BRTS, etc. It is very educative, extremely exciting, interactive and totally safe service. While playing activities, they will also learn about hardships of life and value of money.

💸  Fees – Rs 100 per head (eligible of minimum 3 activities of nearly 15 minutes each) 

Kankaria Carnival – During week long festivals, Kankaria Lakefront illuminates like queen’s necklace during 75 minutes long mega audiovisual festival. Carnival is based on ‘Ame Utsav Premi Amdavadi’ theme, involving more than 100 artists and having following attractions:-

Aqua scripting: 13 ft long, 21 ft tall, 1 ft deep specially designed gadget, Laser show with 3d effect on “EK BHARAT, SHRESHTHA BHARAT” theme, Mega magician show, Lady magician show, Branded food court, LED backdrop, Rock bands show.             

Balloon Safari –The exciting feeling of riding high above the clouds in hot air balloon is certainly on bucket list of every adventurous people. So let’s fulfill our wish.

Mini Golf – You can try your hands on golf courses which offer 3 different challenges in form of 9 holes mini golf courses at single place.

Butterfly Park with Skyder man Glider Ride – To know more about the varieties of butterflies, you must visit this park. They will also tell you how we can save them for the better future. Ride gives us the experience of flying.

Stone Mural Park – It is India’s biggest Stone Mural Park which is also known as Gurjar Gaurav Gatha. This park exhibits sculpture depicting the history of Ahmedabad.

Balvatika – It is a children’s Park with boat house, planetarium, butterfly, weapon display and playroom.

Bubble ride – It is a wonderful ride for everyone where you can feel like walking on water.

Aquarium/Fish House – It is well maintain and you will get to see many rare fishes.

Kankaria Rides – There are various rides but there is no match for these 3: Imperator, fireball and flying chair.

Boating – Sit back and enjoy a lazy on boat in calm water of Kankaria Lake or choose to feel the acceleration in speed boat skimming through water of Lake.
